CVC reflects on 60-year history
Anniversaries are a time to reflect on the past and look to the future. Credit Valley Conservation has this in mind for its upcoming Stewardship Forum and Volunteer Appreciation Day on Oct. 4 which celebrates 60 years of environmental protection.
“The past is our gateway to the future,” said Deborah Martin-Downs, CAO of CVC.
“The lessons we learn have an impact on the future of our environment. After 60 years of conservation with our community partners, we want to reflect on some key moments and discuss how we can shape a greener future.”
This year’s theme commemorates six decades of conservation and looks at key environmental issues. Participants will learn about ecology, managing rain water and monitoring the environment.
Sessions take a look at where CVC started and provide insight into what the future can look like with the proper tools and leadership.
The Stewardship Forum starts at 8:30am with registration and refreshments, followed by a keynote address from Mark Mattson, president of Lake Ontario Waterkeeper and a prominent environmental lawyer. Mattson runs a charity dedicated to a swimmable, drinkable, fishable Lake Ontario.
Sessions run throughout the morning and are followed by a volunteer appreciation lunch.
The event takes place at the University of Toronto Mississauga Campus, 3359 Mississauga Road.
“Each year this event brings together members of the community who share a passion for the environment and a commitment to the community,” said Martin-Downs.
