Culture days coming to Centre Wellington

Culture is coming to Centre Wellington.

From Sept. 28 to 30  Centre Wellington is hosting its first annual Culture Days Celebration.

Elora Fergus Tourism and the Centre Wellington’s Cultural Planning Project are inviting residents to become the ultimate hometown tourist travelling around Centre Wellington on a Culture Passport.

Culture Days is a national movement created in response to growing recognition that a vibrant culture sector contributes directly and significantly to healthy and stable societies and the liveability of our communities.

Cultural planning coordinator, Elizabeth Bender said, ”When we took a good look around we realized that there were already several fantastic activities going on in the area. The passport made perfect sense to highlight what was already happening, and with Centre Wellington currently working on their Municipal Cultural Plan, the timing couldn’t be better.”

The concept is simple – get your passport; visit participating locations and events; enjoy what you see, hear and do; and get your passport stamped.

Collect four or more stamps and submit the passport for a chance to win one of many prizes from local cultural groups and organizations.

Events and activities include Elora Farmers Market Rural Romp Day featuring Mennonite buggy rides; open mic and tours at The Grand 92.9; a scene from Elora Community Theatre’s upcoming play Tom Sawyer live in Templin Gardens; kids fest at the Wellington Artists Gallery; a concert with Scottish duo Janice Howie and Nick Gush; an Older Voices Taverns and Temperance Walking Tour; and the Elora Festival Singers rehearsal at the Fergus Grand Theatre.

Additional stops include the Centre Wellington Sportsplex; Aboyne, Elora and Fergus  libraries; the Elora Fergus Studio Tour locations; Fraberts’ Fresh Foods; Heritage Centre Wellington’s display at the Elora Centre for the Arts Harris Gallery and Wellington County Museum and Archives.

PasSports can be picked up at any event or location or check www.culturemattersCW.com for a complete list and detailed schedule of passport activities. Culture Days is a time to discover something new, something different, and to connect with the creative and cultural Centre Wellington.
