CRTC OKs application for radio station

On April 30, Centre Wellington Community Radio Inc., was told by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission that The Grand@92.9 is approved for a broadcasting licence to operate a new FM radio station to serve the township.

“We are absolutely thrilled with the News,” said Scott Jensen, president of Centre Wellington Community Radio Inc. With the license, organizers can move on the project.

That includes seeking financial support to purchase the antenna and studio broadcast equipment.

The not-for-profit group already received approval for a loan through Community Futures Development Corporation. Those funds can be used only if they are matched with  community commitments.

The station intends to broadcast a wide variety of music genres as well as local programming, from studios in Fergus.

It will focus on local News and community information.

The station will provide ongoing training and development, as well as hands-on experience for volunteers, who will host a number radio shows that were committed to in the station’s application.

The station is accepting applications from interested volunteers on the stations website at www.thegrand929.com.
