Crash-prone Highway 6 intersection site of 84 collisions in past decade
Twenty collisions recorded at intersection last year: MTO
WELLINGTON COUNTY – Over the past decade, there have been 84 collisions at a crash-prone Highway 6 intersection at the border of Centre Wellington and Guelph/Eramosa.
That data was obtained by the Advertiser through a Freedom of Information request filed with the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) last month.
In reporting on the notorious spot, where Wellington Road 22 and 8th Line intersect with Highway 6, near Cox Creek Winery, the newspaper wanted to know how many collisions had occurred there.
Police declined to answer the question, and directed the newspaper to the MTO, which said a Freedom of Information request was required.
The newly obtained crash data, from June 2021 to the end of 2025, complements previously reported data dating back to 2016.
Between January 2016 and June 2021, there were nine non-fatal injuries and 16 reports of property damage in 25 collisions, according to police data previously provided to the Advertiser.
From June 2021 through December 2025 there were 52 collisions, of which 22 were non-fatalities, and 30 involved property damage only.

Though the intersection has been the site of fatalities in the past, provincial data shows there have been no lives lost in crashes there since at least 2016.
The Advertiser has requested 2026 collision data from the Wellington OPP.
Province to implement interim safety measures
Highway 6 became a provincial highway in the area in 1920, according to the MTO.
The province plans to turn the intersection into a roundabout later this year to improve safety.
MTO staffer Julia Caslin told the Advertiser in an email additional signs and pavement markings for north- and south-bound turning lanes are coming when the weather improves.
A speed study will also be conducted to determine whether the highway’s 80km/h speed limit should be changed.
Caslin did not provide specific timing for the interim measures.
“MTO staff continue to observe traffic operations at the intersection,” Caslin wrote.
Construction on the roundabout is expected to begin in the spring.
