CRA hosts annual event to open arena in Clifford

CLIFFORD – Members of the Clifford Recreation Association (CRA) welcomed the public back to the Clifford arena on Oct. 19 for the annual season opener event.

Rotarians Frank Dickinson and Phil Baumgarten barbecued hot dogs and hamburgers for Sheila Dickinson to carry to the table, where Karen Dowler and Dana Speers served them to hungry skaters and arena supporters.

The arena offers skating, figure skating, mom and tots skating, grassroots hockey, and curling.

Emma Ellis was practising her jumps.

The food booth is open, offering a variety of beverages, candy, chips, treat bags, and food from the grill and fryer. They welcome new volunteers to take the training and work at the food booth for regular afternoons and evenings and special events.

Dan Richardson with son Bodhi, daughter Briar, left, and niece Bella Hummel enjoyed the skating session.

A draw was held for $100 gift certificates towards Clifford Arena ice rentals. The winners were Michelle Burnett, Sarah Hummel, Kelsey Richardson, Emma Ellis and Trish Palmer.

“We all continue to work to keep our local arena up and running, but we could not do it without the ongoing support of our terrific little community,” CRA officials state.
