COVID-19 outbreak declared at Wellington Terrace

ABOYNE – Officials at the Wellington Terrace Long-Term Care Home have declared a COVID-19 outbreak at the facility.

During routine testing one resident and one staff member tested positive for the virus, states a Dec. 27 press release from Wellington County, which operates the home.

“The resident and staff member have been isolated and Wellington Terrace has now been placed into a COVID-19 outbreak status,” states the release.

“The outbreak status will remain in place until Jan. 4 or at the discretion of Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health (WDGPH).”

Officials say the resident who tested positive – the first since the outset of the pandemic – has had mild symptoms and is currently stable.

“Results as to whether the case can be defined as the Omnicron variant are still pending,” officials say.

The county release notes all public health protocols are being followed, and all families of residents have been notified of the situation.

“All visitors, staff and contractors are being rapid tested every time they enter the home, which is above and beyond the Ministry of Health directives,” states the release.

“Any resident or employee that shows the slightest evidence of a health change is immediately tested for COVID-19.”
