COVID-19 outbreak declared at Orangeville nursing home
AVALON CARE CENTRE, ORANGEVILLE

ORANGEVILLE - Public health has declared a COVID-19 outbreak at the Avalon Care Centre here.

On Aug. 31 Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health (WDGPH) announced that one staff member, working in Unit 2 South of the Orangeville nursing home, has tested positive for the coronavirus.

The Avalon outbreak is the second in five days announced by WDGPH.

On Aug. 27 the unit declared a COVID-19 outbreak at Village of Arbour Trails Retirement Home in Guelph, after one staff member in the Williamsburg/Becker unit tested positive.

An outbreak is defined by public health officials as one or more confirmed cases of COVID-19 within a long-term care home, retirement home or hospital.

An outbreak is declared over 14 days after symptoms began in the most recent case and when no other cases are suspect.
