Court of revision set

Any residents upset with their assessment for the 8th Line East drainage works should mark July 26 on their calendars.

On that date, the court of revision will be held at 7:30pm at the Guelph-Eramosa council chambers. The court is an appeal body, established under the Drainage Act and administered by the municipality, that allows landowners to challenge their drainage assessments.

Last month, township and Wellington County officials voted to proceed with the  $190,000 drainage project, which includes adding a second culvert on County Road 86, enlarging a culvert on Schaefer Road, deepening open ditches and adding two culverts on private property.

The owners of the 66 lots or part lots affected by flooding will be on the hook for $68,414 of the cost, with individual landowner costs range from $75 to $9,514 depending on the benefit they will receive from the work.

Clerk Meaghen Reid said on Monday night notices of the court of revision date would be mailed to residents the next day. All appeals must be filed by July 16.

Provided there are no appeals to the Ontario Drainage Tribunal, council is expected to provide final approval for the work Sept. 7.
