County’s leaf, yard waste collection begins Oct. 26

WELLINGTON COUNTY – Municipal officials here are reminding urban residents across the county that their first curbside collection of leaf and yard waste is coming up.

The first collection for Minto, Centre Wellington (east of Highway 6), Wellington North and Puslinch is Monday, Oct. 26.

Urban residents in Mapleton, Centre Wellington (west of Highway 6), Erin and Guelph-Eramosa will have their first collection on Monday, Nov. 2.

Residents should have leaf and yard waste at the curb by 7am on their collection day.

“Collection will continue throughout the week until all material is collected,” officials stated in a press release.

“Leaf and yard waste set out after 7am on the Monday may not get collected.”

Garbage, blue box and green bin collection will continue on regularly scheduled collection days.

Officials have issued the following guidelines for leaf and yard waste:

  • leaves and yard waste must be placed in brown paper yard waste bags, or suitable re-usable containers clearly identified as yard waste;
  • small sticks must be bundled and be no longer than 92cm (three feet) in length and 8cm (three inches) in diameter;
  • materials placed out loose or in plastic bags will not be collected; and
  • unacceptable materials include plastic planter pots, plastic bags, grass clippings, large branches, soil, and sod.
