County municipalities to split over $1.6 million in 'COVID Stream' funding
WELLINGTON COUNTY – Municipalities in Wellington County will split over $1.6 million to aid with recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.
The funding, provided under the federal and provincial government’s COVID Stream, is intended to help build and repair roads, bridges, water and wastewater infrastructure.
“Local municipalities need to be able to maintain the infrastructure we count on,” stated Perth-Wellington MPP Randy Pettapiece in a Nov. 4 press release.
“This funding will help them do it.”
Wellington County will receive $570,029, while funding for its lower-tier municipalities is as follows:
- Centre Wellington, $324,424;
- Erin, $100,000;
- Guelph-Eramosa, $123,813;
- Mapleton, $100,000;
- Minto, $135,654;
- Puslinch, $100,000; and
- Wellington North, $199,521.
The local funding is a part of a commitment of $250 million in Ontario.
“This investment provides the predictable and stable infrastructure funding municipalities have asked for in the wake of COVID-19,” said Laurie Scott, Minister of Infrastructure.
“With this COVID Stream funding we are working directly with our municipal partners to deliver community infrastructure.”
Federal government guidelines require that all applications be submitted by March 31, 2021. Projects must be completed by December 31, 2021.
