GUELPH – Wellington County’s roads committee has recommended council approve a $600,000 culvert replacement tender that will close a Mapleton road for roughly three months.

The culvert is located on Wellington Road 10 between Concessions 6 and 8, near Moorefield.

The work includes removal of the existing concrete structure, constructing a new cast-in-place concrete box culvert and concrete retaining walls.

It also includes roadway reconstruction with granular and asphalt, a steel beam guide rail and other miscellaneous road work, states an April 14 report.

A proposed detour route will utilize Wellington Roads 8, 9 and 86.

The project received five bids ranging between $597,000 to just over $919,000 excluding HST. Staff recommends Moorefield-based Roubos Farm Service Limited receive the contract with the lowest bid of $597,475.

The proposed total tender cost is $870,000, which includes professional fees totalling $140,000 and a contingency of $121,000.

If approved at the next council meeting, the county will fund the project through the roads capital reserve ($670,000) and the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund ($200,000).

County council is expected to review the report and approve the tender on April 30.
