County awards contract for project on Wellington Road 124

WELLINGTON COUNTY –  A Kitchener firm has been awarded a $1 million contract for a construction project on Wellington Road 124.

During the June 25 meeting, county council approved the roads committee recommendation to accept the RFP for preliminary design, utility relocation coordination, land acquisition, detailed design, contract administration and inspection services for construction on Wellington Road 124 from Guelph’s westerly limit to the  Guelph/Eramosa Township Line from MTE Consultants Inc., of Kitchener. The company, one of five bidders for the project, submitted a quotation of $1,072,735.

The work includes:

  • detailed design to address recommendations of the Environmental Assessment on the project, which include additional lanes, and twin roundabouts at Wellington Road 32 North and South;
  • coordination of required land acquisitions;
  • coordination of required utility relocations;
  • preparation of construction contracts and tenders;
  • contract administration and testing services for a multi-stage construction plan; and
  • coordination with all approval agencies.

A public information session will be held for businesses in late summer and one for areas residents will be held in the fall. Stage one construction is expected to begin in the spring of 2022.

Culvert project

Also at the meeting council approved awarding of a tender for improvements to a culvert on Wellington Road 5 in the Town of Minto to Xterra Construction Inc., of Kitchener. The company, the sole bidder for the project, submitted a quotation of $373,671.

The project involves  culvert extensions and repairs, retaining wall replacement and guiderail installation on Wellington Road 5 at Minto 3rd Line.
