County approves farm severance, lot line adjustment
Decision deferred for second severance to limit lost farmland
KENILWORTH – Applications for a lot line adjustment and one farm severance are set to move ahead, while another farm severance application has been deferred.
That’s what Wellington North township council heard from the Wellington County land division committee on March 9.
The county is the decision making authority for severances and lot line adjustments, while the township is a commenting agency.
The lot line adjustment is for 149 and 153 Main St. S. in Mount Forest.
The approved severance will see a half-hectare split from a 41-hectare property between Farewell and Wagram, west of Kenilworth, at 9029 Concession 11.
When township council reviewed the application on Jan. 12, they voted unanimously in support.
The deferred severance is for a property about seven kilometres southeast of Arthur.
The owners are hoping to sever 1.3 hectares from a 32-hectare farm at 7269 Jones Baseline.
When Wellington North council reviewed the application in January it opined that the county’s land division should not approve the severance unless the severed portion is smaller than 0.8 hectares so less farmland is lost.
The land division committee deferred the application and asked the applicant to revise the application to reduce the size of the severed lot.
