Councillors, staff get 2% raise

The  township’s mayor, councillors and staff members will receive a 2% raise this year.

The mayor’s remuneration will rise from $14,973 to $15,273, while councillors will make $11,879 this year (last year’s figure was $11,646).

Those figures do not include extra meetings outside of the township or for committees to which councillors have been named (for example, the parks, recreation and culture committee).

The per diem for those meetings is set for 2010 at $120 for a full day meeting, $70 for a half-day and $50 for an evening meeting. Clerk Patty Sinnamon noted those figures have not changed since the 1999 amalgamation of Peel, Maryborough and Drayton.

Remuneration for the mayor and councillors also does not include seminars, conferences and extra expenses such as mileage, hotels, meals and parking. In 2009 the overall total paid to council was $76,647; up 4% from $73,525 in 2008.

Township staff members also received a 2% raise this year. Hourly pay ranges for staff start at $9.60 to $10.29 for a seasonal or student employee and go up to $41.21 to $48.93 for the CAO/clerk.
