Councillor David Wolk is asking Guelph-Eramosa council to refuse Xinyi Canada Glass Ltd.’s zoning bylaw amendment application.

On June 25 Wolk brought a notice of motion to council stating that since “the requirement of ‘dry use’ is not met in the current application” (in regards to water taking levels), council should “refuse” the proposal.

Xinyi is seeking a bylaw amendment to allow a 70-acre, $450-million float glass plant on dry (M1) industrial land at 5081 Wellington Road 32, located north of the intersection of Wellington Roads 124 and 32 on the west side of Guelph-Eramosa.

Wolk has been vocal about concerns with the facility in the past.

GETconcerned, a recently-formed citizen’s group, is opposed to the glass plant.

Council will discuss the notice of motion at its next meeting on July 16.
