Centre Wellington council ratified an agreement with the Elora Farmers’ Market on May 7 for the use of Bissell Park here for the summer.

Parks and recreation director Andy Goldie presented the details.

The market will pay $210 a month for the use of the park on Saturdays. That is a five per cent increase over the first year at the park and it includes the market’s use of electricity and water.

Goldie said vendors must supply their own hoses and approved electrical hook-ups, and must also ensure they are safe..

The township will provide and take care of a rented portable washroom and the market will pay for all costs associated with it. As well, park users will have the use of it the other days of the week throughout the summer. The approximate cost are $120 per month.

There is a small storage space in the park that will be left for the use of the market throughout the season. The market will operate from Bissell Park from May 12 until Nov. 3.

Goldie added that the market is providing $2 million worth of insurance coverage.

Goldie told council he hoped the weather would be more cooperative this year than it was in the first year of operation.

Mayor Joanne Ross-Zuj was pleased with the agreement and noted, “Bissell Park is booming.”
