On Monday Centrew Wellington Mayor Joanne Ross-Zuj discussed the demonstration at the A.O. Smith facility in Fergus on June 15, with regard to the union and the owners of the plant and their disagreement about the business’ pension plan.

Ross-Zuj said one of the reasons she brought the issue up is that “[Wellington-Halton Hills MPP] Ted Arnott delivered a letter to the Minister of Finance.”

She added that Arnott wants to assure the community that he is looking to ensure all provincials laws and regulations of the pension plan were followed.

Ross-Zuj anticipates a report to council following that investigation.

The mayor added that a job fair is being planned for June 25 at the Fergus Sportsplex.

Ross-Zuj anticipated representation from other industries allowing them to review resumes and showing employment opportunities that do exist.

The mayor noted A.O. Smith remains in constant communication with the municipality regarding the transition.

“We’ve got some good communication lines going.”
