Council approves public tenders for asphalt resurfacing, maintenance gravel
Annual tenders align with approved 2026 capital budget
MINTO – Town council here has reviewed and approved tenders for two public works projects.
Town roads and drainage manager Mike McIsaac presented the report to council on March 3.
Every year the town releases a maintenance gravel tender and an asphalt resurfacing tender. This year the tenders closed on Feb. 19.
The maintenance gravel project received four bids, ranging from $101,000 to $127,000.
Town staff recommended awarding the project to the lowest bidder, Harriston-based E. Dennison Contracting Ltd.
The company “actually submitted a price cheaper than the previous year,” McIsaac said.
The asphalt tender received six bids, ranging from $599,000 to $1.46 million.
Due to a wide variation in unit prices submitted through the tender, with the lowest bid falling outside the typical industry ranges, staff recommended awarding the project to E.C. King Contracting for just under $985,000, McIsaac explained.
He also noted E.C. King, the second-lowest bidder, aligned with the approved 2026 capital budget of $1.14 million.
“We’re 100% sure we’re doing the right thing so I have no problem with it,” Mayor Dave Turton said in regards to awarding the project to the second-lowest bidder.
Councillors offered no comments on the report and they voted unanimously to approve the tenders.
