Council has approved a zoning bylaw to allow the expansion of a dog kennel in the southwest corner of the township.

Abram and Mary Bowman applied to increase from 29.7 square metres (320 square feet) to 79.1 square metres (852 square feet) the size of their kennel on Concession 3, between Sideroad 6 and County?Road 10. They also want to increase the number of dogs from 20 to 25.

County planner Linda Redmond said the application is “still in keeping with” the existing site specific zoning  that allows the kennel on the 40 hectare (100 acre) property.

Abram Bowman told council he runs a clean and safe facility and has never had any complaints from his neighbours. In fact, two neighbours spoke in favour of the Bowman’s application at the public meeting.

Council unanimously approved the bylaw.

Councillor Jim Curry was absent.
