At a special meeting on Oct. 1 council accepted a proposal from Corix Utilities for the supply and installation of universal water meters in Drayton and Moorefield.

The London-based company was one of four firms submitting proposals for the project.

Cost for supply and installation of the metres is $341,382, but CAO Patty Sinnamon said there will be additional contingency costs such as additional plumbing or carpentry to gain access to the water service.

The township has been approved for $439,000 in provincial funding for the project.

Over the next few weeks representatives of Corix and municipal staff will be contacting residents, businesses and facility operators to schedule education meetings and make appointments to arrange for meter installation.

The municipality is aiming to have all meters installed and operating by the end of December.
