WELLINGTON COUNTY – The county roads committee met on June 10 and reviewed a tender for the reconstruction on Wellington Roads 52 and 22 in Erin.
The proposed work involves full depth asphalt removal, new concrete curb and gutter, hot mix asphalt and pavement markings.
On May 29, five submissions were received from contractors, with pricing excluding 13 per cent HST.
Staff recommended awarding the contract to the lowest bidder: Guelph-based Cox Construction Limited, for just under $1.1 million.
The highest bid of $1.56 million was from Cambridge-based Dufferin Construction Company.
County manager of roads Joe de Koning stated construction is likely to begin in mid- to late-July with completion dates in the fall.
The county has already paid $4.9 million of the total cost for road work.
The project totals $6.5 million and is to be funded in various ways, with the roads capital reserve accounting for almost $3.1 million, an Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund grant for just under $3.4 million and development charges for $15,600.
Costs include the tender, professional fees, internal recoveries (labour, equipment) and a contingency of $120,800.
The roads committee reviewed the tender amount and recommended council approval.
