Construction season ends; township opens two major roads before Christmas

CENTRE WELLINGTON – The Township of Centre Wellington has announced the re-opening of two key roads in Fergus and Elora.

 St. David Street, Fergus

Phase two of the St. David Street Reconstruction Project, spanning from Garafraxa Street to Edinburgh Avenue, has been substantially completed and the roadway is open.

This project is a full reconstruction of St. David Street North from St. Andrew Street to Edinburgh Avenue and includes:

– replacement of municipal underground infrastructure, including watermain and sanitary sewer;

– modifications to the storm sewer system;

– full road and sidewalk replacement;

– traffic calming measures;

– signalized intersection upgrades;

– a new pedestrian crossing at St. George Street; and

– utility relocations.

Remaining work to be completed in 2026 includes:

– installation of separated cycling facilities;

– completion of the sidewalk;

 – boulevard grading and landscaping; and

– surface asphalt.

 Colborne Street, Elora

Colborne Street, from John Street to Wilson Crescent in Elora, re-opened  on Dec. 24 following significant infrastructure improvements. 

The road had been closed since June to allow for:

– water infrastructure upgrades;

– stormwater system improvements; and

– sanitary sewer upgrades.

Remaining work to be completed in 2026 includes:

 – completion of the sidewalk;

– completion of curb and gutter;

– boulevard grading and landscaping; and

– surface asphalt.
