CreditValley Conservation Foundation (CVCF) hosted its ninth annual Conservation Gala on May 29, raising $160,000 for projects that support Credit Valley Conservation (CVC) initiatives.
The funds will support The Conservation Youth Corps Program (CYC) and the Core 10 Conservation Areas by furthering the objectives of each of these programs, ultimately ensuring a healthier and greener Credit River watershed.
CYC is a youth program that provides incredible environmental focused volunteer opportunities for high school students in the CreditRiver area. Participants gain practical experience in conservation and natural resource management in a safe and structured environment.
The conservation areas of CVC represent a cross section of natural and cultural landscapes that characterize the CreditRiver watershed. Rare flora and fauna, habitats, ecosystems and cultural heritage features are all protected within these areas.
“The Credit River watershed is an ecosystem under severe stress” said Terri LeRoux, Executive Director, CVCF. “While CVC receives funding from a variety of sources, there is never enough money to carry out all the important environmental work that needs to be done. Fundraising events such as the Conservation Gala, help get this important work done.”
The gala, held at Lionhead Golf Club in Brampton, was presented by title sponsor, Enersource. Nearly 350 environmentalists, business people, community members, politicians and guests attended.
“We are thrilled that the Conservation Gala raised $160,000 for two important CVC initiatives,” said Jim Muscat, Chair, CVCF. “We want to thank more than 100 companies who supported the event through sponsorship, donations and attendance. We look forward to seeing everyone again in 2015.”
