Wellington North Township is extending its Canada-Ontario Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund agreement to complete the Mount Forest sewage treatment plant.

The issue was discussed on March 23. Council noted the original agreement required the project had to be finished by March 31.

However, in late 2008, municipalities were given the chance to ask for a deadline extension if it appeared a project might not be completed in time. In his report to council, treasurer John Jeffrey noted “The township made such a request and was given a verbal commitment by the ministry staff that it had been granted.”

Jeffrey said a number of communities had expressed concern they would not be able to complete the projects by March 31.

Wellington North also had some concerns. Since then the ministry provided an amended agreement for signature. Jeffrey said it has worked out well for Wellington North.

The treatment plant is operational.

There is minor work to be finished. It was hoped the Durham Street pump station and the Normanby Street work had been incorporated under the original COMRIF project - which would have extended the work into summer and fall.
