Community foundation awards three more grants through COVID-19 fund

CENTRE WELLINGTON – The Centre Wellington Community Foundation (CWCF) has announced three more grants from the CW COVID-19 Community Response Fund.

Launched on April 2, the purpose of the fund is to raise money for what foundation officials call “urgent community needs.”

They have been “talking with a lot of local people and organizations and kept hearing about the need to … get food to those most in need,” said CWCF chair Randall Howard.

The latest grants of $1,000 each have been awarded to:

  • the Children’s Foundation’s “Fresh Food for Kids” program, which provides healthy snacks (usually offered through schools, the program is now providing home delivery);
  • the Community Resource Centre of North and Centre Wellington, to provide grocery gift cards to those who cannot access the food bank; and
  • the Centre Wellington Food Bank, which has seen increased demand.

“The power of these grants is we pool the donations together, which multiplies each donor’s impact,” state CWCF officials.

“We know people want to help. We have seen many inspiring examples recently.”
