CENTRE WELLINGTON – The Centre Wellington Pride committee will host the first CW Pride Celebration on June 14 at the Wellington County Museum and Archives.
“We started meeting in November of 2024,” said event organizer and CW Pride committee member Brenda Murphy.
“We decided that we wanted a lot of our efforts to go towards putting on the first CW Pride community celebration, because it’s never happened before in Centre Wellington.”
The committee has received funding from the township and the Centre Wellington Community Foundation, as well as other community sponsors.
The event will run from 1 to 4:30pm and feature local vendors, a food truck, arts and crafts, face painting, outreach programs and support services, as well as some interactive games.
The event is free and open to everyone.
“There really hasn’t been a really strong outward facing Pride organization that is an opportunity for us to get to know each other, get to have a more public face in the community and just be out there and show folks all about the joy of living with the way that we all choose to live within the community and to share that joy and happiness,” said Murphy.
The event is currently seeking volunteers, 16 years of age and up, as well as vendor applications.
“We have about 10 volunteers so far,” said Murphy. “And we would like to have 30 total.”
Volunteers are needed for help with crafts, crowd control, set up and tear down, and more. Murphy says volunteers of all physical abilities are welcome.
Those interested in setting up a booth or volunteering are invited to fill out an application form at cwpride.ca.
Support services and outreach programs can apply for a booth free of cost. All other booths will be charged a small fee.
