Clifford Homecoming this weekend

Chair Bill Smith met with all the committees to finalize plans for the 150th Community Anniversary and 2017 Clifford Homecoming on  July 29 at Knox United Church, saying, “It’s amazing what’s all happening here within a week.”

Volunteer co-ordinator Janna Dally confirmed volunteer times, shifts and delivery schedules so the weekend runs smoothly for all involved.

Interested residents/visitors can sign up with Brett Uhrig at 519-497-5180 for their chance to climb into the basket and rise above the celebration tethered in a hot air balloon.

Visitors can also create take home gifts at the library and enjoy the robot toys.

Homecoming visitors can also stop by the arena to check out the pile of old hockey sweaters for sale, a real souvenir of Clifford teams.

As an added attraction, John and Ann Bowen will be opening their historical building to escorted tours Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 4pm.

Located at 11 Mill Street, the former Cheese House was a thriving brewery, creamery, egg station, cheese store, bakery, and used to manufacture plastics.

They will have a display of artifacts, early Newspapers, photos and copies of antique maps.

Pastor Jody Rinas invites everyone to join in Sunday worship at 10am at St. John’s Lutheran Church located at 34 Clarke Street North.

The service will include the voices of a mass choir.

Later at 1:30pm, a combined community service will be held at the Entertainment Tent on the ball field at the John Hobelman Memorial Rotary Pavilion Park.

Following that service, Corey Hobelman will be singing in honour of his father John, for who the Rotary park was named.

Sharon Kaufman designed and stitched a homecoming quilt that will be won by a lucky ticket holder at 5pm on Aug. 6.

Tickets will be on sale near the silent auction items in the players boxes at the arena.

On Aug. 4, registration begins at 9am at the Rotary Pavilion, the library opens at 10am.

The opening ceremonies begin at 7:30pm following a roast beef dinner in the arena.

The band Blue Angel will then perform for a dance in the Entertainment Tent.

 Clifford 2017 Homecoming runs Aug. 4 to 7, with a fireworks extravaganza set for Aug. 6.
