Chilifest held Feb. 6 at Fergus Legion to support Community Resource Centre

Last week’s 18th annual Chilifest was a chance for good food for a good cause.

On Feb. 6 Community Resource Centre of North and Centre Wellington executive director Ron MacKinnon explained all the funds raised and all the proceeds from the event go towards the centre’s outreach and transportation programs.

“It helps with things like our backpack, our income tax program, helping children at Christmas time – those sorts of things.”

As well, MacKinnon said organizers would like to thank its sponsors including the Fergus Legion, FreshCo and the Wellington Advertiser.

“We have tons of volunteers helping out – we couldn’t do it without them and there are more on the way.”

Included in that group are 10 volunteer drivers who help deliver the meals.

In addition, there were numerous celebrity servers at the Fergus Legion for the event.

Though there is much planning to make this work, MacKinnon said the groceries arrive on Tuesday and the chili is cooked on Wednesday and Thursday prior to the Chilifest event on Friday.

MacKinnon’s hope was to raise $10,000 this year.
