Chief: adhere to fire permits

Having a permit does not mean residents can leave outdoor fires unattended, fire officials say.

An early morning call on Aug. 8  near the intersection of Geddes and Moir Streets in Elora turned out to be an unattended backyard fire.

Centre Wellington fire chief Brad Patton said the occupant, who had a burn permit, was reminded to follow permit  rules. One of the terms of Centre Wellington open air burning permits is that “the fire is to be attended and supervised at all times by a responsible, competent adult.” The permit also outlines size, location and materials that can be burned. The list of conditions is on the township website.
