‘Chicago The Musical’ coming to Guelph Little Theatre

GUELPH – In roaring 20s Chicago, chorine Roxie Hart murders a faithless lover and convinces her hapless husband, Amos, to take the rap … until he finds out he’s been duped and turns on Roxie.

Convicted and sent to death row, Roxie and another “Merry Murderess,” Velma Kelly, vie for the spotlight and the headlines, ultimately joining forces in search of fame, fortune and acquittal.

This sharp-edged satire on corruption in the administration of criminal justice and the concept of “celebrity criminals” features a dazzling score and many iconic songs such as All That Jazz, Cellblock Tango and Mr. Cellophane.

Chicago opened on Broadway on June 3, 1975 and was directed and choreographed by Bob Fosse.

This production of Chicago The Musical is directed by Susan G. Acheson.

The creative team includes Holly A. Reid (choreography), Jason Clattenburg (set design), Sandra Conway (costume sesign), Peter Busby (lighting design), Jacob Bajak (sound design), Franny McCabe-Bennett (vocal director), Luisa Lago (stage manager), with a nine-piece orchestra led by local conductor Trevor Wagler.

Chicago The Musical also features a stellar cast of incredible singers, dancers and actors, including many Guelph natives and others from the surrounding areas of Kitchener, Cambridge, Hamilton and Toronto.
