On May 18 at about 2:50pm, Wellington County OPP officers were conducting a RIDE program at the intersection of Concession 2 and Sideroad 2 here.

Police say a red SUV entered the RIDE check and officers spoke with the driver, who police allege was operating the vehicle without proper permits or insurance.

The passenger identified himself verbally and then, while police were speaking with the driver, the passenger exited the vehicle carrying a parcel and ran into a wooded area, police say.

After a short foot pursuit he was located and arrested.

The driver of the vehicle, Shane Beauregard, 38, of Hamilton, was been charged with operating a motor vehicle without insurance, failing to surrender a permit for a vehicle, using unauthorized plates and failing to apply for a permit on becoming an owner. He is to appear in Guelph court on July 18.

The passenger, Darryl Macri, 34, of Cambridge, was charged with obstructing a peace officer, resisting arrest, failing to comply with a recognizance, failing to comply with a probation order and possession of a Schedule 1 substance (fentanyl). He was held for bail.
