Chamber presenting seminar on coming HST changes on Feb. 24

The Centre Wellington Chamber of Commerce is presenting a seminar about the changing GST and HST legislation.

It will focus on the implementation of the new HST and will take place Feb. 24 from 9 to 11am. This session will be held at the Lighthouse Restaurant at the Grand River Raceway, and there is a $12 fee.

Matthew Kavanagh, of Collins Barrow Chartered Accountants, will speak at the seminar. There will be a question and answer period after his presentation.

The chamber conducted a survey last year before Christmas to determine if local businesses are interested in learning more about the coming changes in the tax, and how it would affect their organization. Many organizations indicated they want to learn more.

The tax changes are set to 2010 and will have various impacts. For some industries the transition to HST will be more complex and require a greater understanding of the transitional rules.

The seminar is designed to help that understanding, as well as their responsibilities under the transitional rules and the HST pro-gram.

The seminar will include specific transitional rules and how the HST will be administered.

Anyone who wants to attend can do so at  chamber@cwchamber.ca, or call 519-843-5140. For more information about the chamber, visit www.cwchamber.ca. The website has up to date information from organizations like the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, Ontario Chamber of Commerce and Revenue Canada, as well as an elaborate business directory of local chamber members.
