CENTRE WELLINGTON – Township council has appointed a board of directors for its new Centre Wellington Economic Development and Tourism Municipal Services Corporation.

The board includes two councillors, five community members (selected through a skills-based recruitment process), and two non-voting township representatives.

The voting members are Mayor Shawn Watters, councillor Kim Jefferson, Skyler Hammond, Michael Ryan, Donald Fisher, Jocelyn Maurice and Bob Cameron.

The non-voting members are CAO Dan Wilson and treasurer Adam McNabb.

The corporation is a township-owned, non-profit corporation created to provide dedicated leadership for economic development and tourism while maintaining strong public accountability through council, officials state in a press release.

The board will provide strategic direction and governance, while day-to-day operations will be led by an executive director, who will be hired in the coming months.

“The appointment of the board represents an exciting next step for Centre Wellington,” Wilson said.

“We are fortunate to have a diverse group of experienced community leaders who bring a wide range of skills and perspectives.

“Together, they will help guide initiatives that support local businesses, strengthen our visitor economy, and advance council’s strategic direction of creating conditions for economic prosperity while ensuring strong public accountability,” Wilson states in the release.

Wilson said there were 28 strong applicants and he appreciated the interest, passion and time people were willing to share.

The corporation will focus on implementing council’s economic development and tourism strategy, supporting local business attraction and expansion, strengthening partnerships and managing tourism development in Centre Wellington.
