Since its inception a decade ago, the Elora Centre for the Arts (ECFTA) has experienced financial and programming difficulties, in spite of efforts to grow its base of support.

Simply put, the status quo is not sustainable, officials say - so a transformational change is required in order to build a vibrant centre of excellence in the visual and performing arts that attracts diverse publics, supports artists from the community and beyond, develops collaborative approaches among arts organizations and enhances the economy of the region.

The board has concluded that it must now embark on ways and means to develop and sustain the centre in a community and region with strong heritage, cultural and environmental features.

The committee just started meeting and over the next few months will provide not only its own best advice, but will meet with others whose experience and insights can help to create viable strategies for the ECFTA.

The board will work with individuals and organizations over the next several months in order that they may share their ideas about the centre and its roles going forward.
