Centre director awarded Jubilee medal
Guelph MP Frank Valeriote awarded Diamond Jubilee Medals to 30 community members and seven Order of Canada recipients recently in a ceremony at the Guelph Youth Music Centre.
Among the recipients of the Diamond Jubilee medals, issued in honour of Queen Elizabeth II’s 60 years as monarch, was Judith Nasby, director and curator of the Macdonald Stewart Art Centre (MSAC).
Nasby has lead the MSAC for over three decades, showing innovative exhibitions, building an art collection of more than 7000 works, and making the gallery a focal point for arts in the Guelph community.
Her extensive knowledge of the visual arts, her business acumen and continuous energy, have informed the development of MSAC organization since its founding in 1978.
Nasby broke new ground by initiating Canada’s first collection of contemporary silver and through her ongoing curation of the Sculpture Park, making it the largest outdoor sculpture garden at a gallery in Canada.
She also fostered the development of important specialized collections of contemporary Canadian art and Inuit art.
MSAC is Guelph’s public art gallery, presenting exhibitions, education programs, and events for youth and adults throughout the year.
Nasby has also authored several books and toured exhibitions internationally.
