A group of Celtic musicians are hosting The Real St. Patrick: A celebration of Ireland’s Patron Saint on March 17.

“It was time to put the Saint back in the celebration of our national day,” Irish-born musician Eugene Rea said. “The meaning of St. Patrick’s Day has been obscured through commercializations.”

Rea and over 20 musical performers and dancers will convey the Celtic tradition, and a sense of the reality of the man who helped spread Christianity throughout the pagan Celtic world.

The community will experience a traditional evening of Celtic art, dance and music.

Featured performers include The Royal Academy of Irish Dance, Gaedelica (Karen MacLeod and Jason Pfeifer), The Occasionals (Fiona McCairley, Amy McCann and Graham Kidd), World Champion Dancer Daniel Carr and The Celts (Rea, Nonie Crete, Gary Kreller, Hollie Anne, Anne Lederman, David Woodhead and Paul Gribbon).

This event is in support of The Children’s Foundation of Guelph and Wellington. It takes place on March 17 at the Dublin St. United Church (68 Suffolk St West) at 6pm.

Tickets are $20 general admission and $15 for youth, available at Ground Floor Music (13 Quebec St.).
