Cause of garage fire undetermined

Approximately 20 firefighters worked together to get a garage fire here under control on April 10.

The call came in just after midnight and three Guelph-Eramosa trucks from and two from Puslinch Township went to the scene on Pine Street in Rockwood.

“When the crews showed up on scene there was significant smoke showing and some flames starting to appear under the eaves,” Guelph-Eramosa fire chief John Osborne told the Advertiser in a phone interview.

He said firefighters were able open the overhead door of the garage and fought the fire from that point.

“Puslinch was cleared fairly quick because the fire was knocked down fairly fast,” Osborne said.

Rockwood crews cleared the scene by 2:45am.

The garage was detached from the home so there was no concern that the fire would travel, Osborne said. However, the significant damage to the garage was valued at close to $85,000.

The cause of the fire was undetermined at press time.
