MOUNT FOREST – Cancer Patient Services Corporation (CPSC) donated $70,000 to the Louise Marshall Hospital (LMH) Foundation on June 16 for the purchase of two gastroscopes.

CPSC is a charitable organization that provides support, transportation and other services to cancer patients in Mount Forest and the surrounding community.

“Over the years, the organization has been a strong supporter of the Louise Marshall Hospital by helping to fund equipment that aids in the diagnosis or treatment of cancer,” officials state in a press release.

This most recent gift was presented by CPSC president Faye Meulensteen and CPSC director Brenda Harris to LMH registered nurse and clinical resource lead Katie Frankland. This donation will fund two gastroscopes for the hospital’s surgical unit.

A gastroscope is used to examine the upper digestive tract and is an essential tool used in the detection, diagnosis and treatment of cancer and other upper GI issues.

“We are so grateful for the continued support of Cancer Patient Services Corporation, and their team’s incredible commitment to providing care and services for cancer patients in Mount Forest and the surrounding area,” stated LMH executive director Amy Van Huss.

Meulensteen said,  “Cancer Patient Services Corporation has been very fortunate since it’s inception almost 17 years ago to have the tremendous support of Mount Forest and the surrounding community.

“Our original mandate of providing drives and support for cancer patients in our area still remains.  Support comes in many forms, and one of these is funding the purchase of needed medical equipment for cancer detection and treatment such as gastroscopes for Louise Marshall Hospital.”

She added, “This would also not be possible without the unbelievable success of the Mount Forest Thrift Shop which has a volunteer base of approximately 100 hard-working and dedicated individuals. Whether you are coming in the front door, or dropping off at the back door, you are supporting both Cancer Patient Services Corporation and the Louise Marshall Hospital Foundation.”
