Canadian Tenors will perform Sept. 8 benefit for Hospice Wellington

Because We Believe, a benefit concert with The Canadian Tenors for Hospice Wellington will run here on Sept. 8 at River Run Centre.

In spring 2010, Wellington County’s first 10-bed residential hospice will open here, bringing hospice palliative care to a new level and offer patients at the end of life a comfortable, home-like atmosphere, with clinical staff on site.

To celebrate that year of change, Hospice Wellington is partnering with local sponsors to bring The Canadian Tenors to the city.

“These guys are following in the footsteps of my other protégés, Josh Groban and Andrea Bocelli,” proclaimed David Foster.

Together, the foursome has shared the stage with music legend Quincy Jones, Grammy award-winner Wyclef Jean, and Canada’s musical maestro David Foster.

The group has performed on the same stage with Tuscan tenor Bocelli in Tel-Aviv. It recently filmed a documentary where its voices united with local children to bring awareness of the African village of Bulembu, Swaziland, a town being reborn after years of suffering.

More recently, the quartet joined Sting and Sheryl Crow to raise funds for Sunnybrook Hospital and celebrated July 1  on Parliament Hill with Sarah McLachlan.

This group combines classical and contemporary pop. The Canadian Tenors’ unique repertoire is sung not only in English and French but also in Spanish and Italian reflecting a multicultural heritage and establishing the group as an international success.

As Hospice Wellington moves to the opening of its new facility, the need for ongoing financial support is critical. Many have already offered sponsorships. Hospice Wellington and the services is offers  has no charge to clients.

For over 28 years Hospice Wellington has provided community services to the communities of Guelph and Wellington County.

Tickets are available through the River Run box office only.

This concert will include a live, fundraising auction with all proceeds supporting Hospice Wellington. Auction donors have been very creative and generous. Items include a “Star for a Day’ package with a make over and fashion photography. A “dine and date for a year” package includes $50 gift certificates for many local restaurants, admission to local and area attractions such as a pair of tickets to Stratford Festival, and other goodies.

Regular and prime seating is available. Prime seating includes a pre-show reception which begins at 6:30pm. The concert begins at 8pm. Tax receipts will be issued for a portion of the ticket prices.

A few sponsorship opportunities remain. Sponsorships over $2,000 grant access to a post show reception with The Canadian Tenors and complimentary front of house seating for the show.
