ERIN – About 200 residents in the Hillsburgh area were left without phone, TV and/or internet services this week after someone stole cables from a utility pole near the village.

Wellington County OPP officials say that on Feb. 11, just after 1pm, someone "cut down and stole three copper cables and one fibre cable" from a pole on Wellington Road 22, between 6th Line and Trafalgar Road, southwest of Hillsburgh.

"It was estimated that the suspect(s) were there for approximately 30 minutes to be able to cut down the cables," police stated in a Feb. 13 press release.

"Approximately 200 people were out of service as a result of the cable thefts."

Police are asking anyone who resides in the area of the theft to check their dashcam and home video footage from 11:30am to 2pm on Feb. 11.

Anyone with information or relevant footage can call police at 1-888-310-1122.

To remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
