Breakaway group gives kids a chance to find their sport

Looking for an alternative program to sign kids up for this winter?

Not sure what sport they are interested in?

Can’t afford to put them in anything?

Breakaway is worth a try.

Breakaway is a free Sports program for kids 10 years old up to grade 8 and it is celebrating its tenth anniversary of providing athletic opportunities for children in the community.

It is offered on Wednesday evenings for one hour from October to March. Each evening ends with a positive, high-impact talk to the kids about real life issues, focusing on developing integrity and moral character in youth.

The volunteers of Breakaway hope to inspire the kids involved to make right choices, using an incentive program and prizes.

Sports include indoor soccer, floor hockey, basketball, and dodgeball.

There are also special events planned throughout the winter, such as movie nights, pizza parties and skating events.

Prizes are given away every week.

Breakaway begins on Oct. 6 and is offered at 7pm at St. Joseph School in Fergus and at 6:30pm at Elora Public School. For more information, contact Julie Katerberg at 519-846-9013 or mark_julie@wightman.ca.
