BRISBANE – A Brantford man is facing five charges, including kidnapping, assault and uttering threats, following an incident here on Thursday.

Wellington County OPP officials say officers responded on Feb. 19 at about 2:15pm to "a call from an individual ... being held against their will" at a business on Wellington Road 124 between Trafalgar Road and Patrick Drive.

"Police attended ... after the victim contacted 9-1-1," stated a Feb. 20 press release from the OPP.

"The suspect fled the scene on foot and was taken into custody without incident a short time later. There were no injuries."

Police say nearby Brisbane Public School was placed under a "hold and secure" protocol while officers "contained the area for the investigation."

A 28-year-old Brantford man was charged with kidnapping, assault (spousal), assault causing bodily harm, intimidation and uttering threats.

He is to appear in Guelph court at a later date.

Police say they will not identify the man in order to protect the identity of the victim.
