Board forms committee to name new school

The Upper Grand District School Board (UGDSB) has named trustees to naming committees for new schools set to open in September, including two in Guelph, one in Orangeville and one in Rockwood.

The board made the appointments at its meeting on Dec. 17.

Trustee Kathryn Cooper has been appointed to the committee in charge of naming the new UGDSB public school at the south end of Rockwood.

In September the board awarded the contract for the new two-storey, 34,000 square-foot school to Tambro Construction for about $6.26 million.

School board officials say an on-line survey will be posted on the board’s website to solicit names for all the  new schools. For those wanting a paper submission, collection boxes will be placed in the feeder/holding schools for the new schools.

Also, principals of the new schools will canvass students and parents, board officials say.
