Benefit concert for the Black family

Michael Black, a self-employed builder/contractor from Markdale, recently suffered a brain aneurysm.

“His survival was nearly miraculous for, at the time, he lay down in the snow and got mild hypothermia,” said Andrea Black, Michael Black’s sister-in-law. “Though the aneurysm was rated as a 10 out of 10 for severity, the surgeons in London suggested it’s possible that the mild hypothermia is what saved him as it forced the blood to his heart and allowed a clot to form, thus preventing further bleeding.”

Michael is the father of 10 children, they are known as The Black Family. All 10 children play the fiddle and step-dance. They have performed around Ontario, including Fergus and Arthur.

Michael has returned home from London, but won’t be able to get back to work anytime soon.

The family has set up a trust fund, and Donnell Leahy and Natalie MacMaster are having a benefit concert in Owen Sound on Nov. 24, matinee show beginning at 2:30pm.

Guests include: Jake Charron, Matt MacIssac, Doug Leahy and Family, Kate Quinn, and more.

The event is open to the public, tickets are $38, and can be purchased at the Roxy Theatre Box Office 519-371-2833 or www.roxytheatre.ca.
