Belwood Lions given options for toll booth dates

Work on the Belwood bridge now means the local Lions Club is being given options when to hold its annual toll road.

On April 18, Centre Wellington councillors received an application from the Belwood Lions Club to operate a toll booth to raise funds for the Canadian Diabetes Association.

The original recommendation before councillors was to authorize the toll booth on Wellington County Road 26 in Belwood on May 22 from 8:30am to 4:30pm.

However, councillor Mary Lloyd noted that following publication of the agenda for the committee of the whole “it has come to our attention that the bridge crossing on Wellington Rd. 26 in Belwood is having some construction on it.”

Lloyd said project construction work will be happening Monday to Friday and will reduce traffic to one lane, but allow two lanes of traffic on the weekend.

As a result, there’s been a request to add a phrase to the Lions’ request.

This would allow the club the opportunity to host the event on an alternative weekend.

The alternative date would be June 12.

Lloyd said the Belwood Lions have been contacted and appreciate the opportunity to hold the event on a different weekend.

The committee of the whole endorsed the request with no further discussion.
