Beattie, David; Passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at The Wellington Terrace in his 98th year. Son of the late William A. and Edna Jane Beattie. Predeceased by his sister Janet Isobel and her husband William L. Elliott. Survived by his nephews; David (Martha) Elliott and Douglas (Cheryle) Elliott as well as niece; Elaine (Robert) Douglas and their extended families. Retired farmer, local historian, poet, and Past Master of the Mercer Masonic Lodge #347, Fergus. David served on the Boards of the Ennotville Library and Mount Pleasant Cemetery. He was the author “Pillars and Patches Along the Pathway” a personal and well-documented history of Nichol Township. For this 1984 publication David received a bicentennial award from the Province of Ontario. Visitation was held on Monday, August 20th, 2012 from 1:00-2:00 pm at the Graham A. Giddy Funeral Home & Chapel, 280 St. David St. South in Fergus. A funeral service followed the visitation in the funeral home chapel at 2:00 pm.
