Police have laid several charges against a woman they say tried to defraud a local bank.

On April 7, a woman allegedly attempted to open an account using false identification at a bank on St. Andrew Street West in Fergus.

Wellington County OPP officials say the woman had done the same thing at four other banks in Wellington County in the last month.

Mary-Jean Campbell, 55, previously of the Toronto area, was charged with six counts of obtaining credit under false pretences and 12 counts of using forged documents.

Police say Campbell used the aliases of Tara Jean Miller, Sara Jane Martin and Andrea Mary Kantelberg and had an Australian accent.

Anyone with information regarding this or similar incidents can contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122. To remain anonymous call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or visit www.csgw.tips.
