WATERLOO – The Drayton Entertainment Youth Academy has announced joint dance call auditions for the Youth Chorus of Drayton Entertainment’s production of School of Rock and its Advanced Musical Theatre Company – Rising Stars.

The auditions will take place on Dec. 8 from 5:30 to 6:45pm at the Drayton Entertainment Youth Academy in Waterloo.

Young performers ages 10 to 18 are encouraged to register for the opportunity to develop their skills and perform as part of these productions.

“Every young performer deserves the chance to discover their full potential and feel the joy of being part of something bigger than themselves,” Drayton Entertainment artistic director David Connolly.

“Through School of Rock and Rising Stars, we’re inviting young people to bring their individuality and imagination to the stage, build friendships, and find the confidence to let their own voices shine.”

At the joint dance call, auditionees will learn a choreography combination as a group before performing in smaller groups for members of the creative teams.

Advance registration is required.

School of Rock: The Musical

School of Rock: The Musical is directed by Alex Mustakas and choreographed by Christine Watson.

Young performers aged 10 to 15 are invited to audition for the Youth Chorus of School of Rock: The Musical, offered free of charge as part of the academy’s commitment to removing financial barriers and making arts education accessible to more young people, officials state in a press release.

Based on the hit film, School of Rock follows Dewey Finn, a wannabe rock star who poses as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school and transforms a class of students into a guitar-shredding rock band.

Featuring 14 new songs by Andrew Lloyd Webber alongside the original songs from the movie, this high-energy musical celebrates the power of music, friendship and finding your voice.

The selected Youth Chorus will perform alongside professional artists in Drayton Entertainment’s production of School of Rock: The Musical.

Rehearsals are scheduled to start on March 16, 2027, with performances from April 7 to May 2.

Youth Chorus members must be available for all rehearsals and performances.

School of Rock: The Musical is proudly supported by Production Sponsor Document Imaging Partners, Design Sponsor Domino’s Pizza Cambridge, Media Sponsors FM 98.5 CKWR and Waterloo Region Record, and Orchestra Sponsor ARCA Financial Group.

Rising Stars

Following the success of its inaugural showcase, the Drayton Entertainment Youth Academy will return with Advanced Musical Theatre Company – Rising Stars in 2027, led by Chad McNamara.

For performers ages 10 to 18 who want to further develop their musical theatre skills, Rising Stars offers training in acting, voice and dance under the guidance of industry professionals.

Participants will strengthen their performance technique and build confidence as they work toward a live stage production at the St. Jacobs Country Playhouse.

In addition to the Dec. 8 dance call, Rising Stars applicants must register for a separate singing audition on Dec. 15.

Rehearsals will take place on Sundays from Feb. 7 to May 9, with a final performance on May 15.

The program fee is $595 plus HST.
