This community’s “Canada’s Most Patriotic Village” wasn’t hard to find as judges chose the top business and residence displaying the patriotic theme during last weekend’s Canada Day festivities.

The competition was judged by Mayor Ray Tout, Fergus Elora Tourism representative Deb Dalziel and mural artist Cliff Smith.

Criteria for the judging included scoring each property’s overall originality, use of materials, visual appeal, overall skill and fulfillment of intent.

As a Canada Day celebration, the nation’s flag was given a prominent spot.

Walsh’s Pharmacy won first place, said tourism, marketing and promotion manager April Marshall in a News release. Runner-up in the business category went to The Plumber’s Wife. In the residential category, the prize was split evenly between residents Faye Craig and Michelle Leies and John Green.

“The both did a great job of utilizing their home fronts to decorate with Canadian flags, utilize red and white colours and showcase fun in their displays,” the judges ruled.
