The local Optimist Club will be hosting the annual Canada Day celebration here, with a host of events starting June 27 and running until June 29.

The weekend kicks off on Friday evening with men’s and mixed three-pitch tournaments at the arena fairgrounds.

The Optimists will also host a pavilion dance with a DJ from 9pm to 1am to coincide with a 7pm to 1am food booth and beer garden.

The three-pitch tournament continues on June 28, along with a beer garden and food booth.

A horseshoe tournament is scheduled to begin at 1pm Saturday.

The Optimist Club is sponsoring a free swim from 1pm to 3pm and a pavilion dance in the evening from 9pm to 1am.

On June 29 the Opti-Mrs will be hosting a barbecue from 11:30am to 1:30pm followed by kid’s activities from 2 to 5pm. The club will also hosts its Optimist Canada Day raffle draw.

To finish off Canada Day activities, the club is hosting a family-friendly movie night at the Optimist pavilion. The featured show will be The Lego Movie and show-goers are advised to bring lawn chairs and a blanket.
